We Started Because of What Happens After a Hail Storm

Anyone who has lived in North Texas through a spring knows the pattern. A serious hail event moves through Denton County, and within seventy two hours the neighborhood fills with out-of-state trucks, door knockers, and yard signs from companies nobody has heard of. Some of them are competent. Many are not, and a fair number will not be reachable at all in three years when the roof they installed starts leaking at the valleys.

That churn is the reason this company exists. We are local, we are not going anywhere after the storm season ends, and the roof we put on your house is one we expect to be asked about in a decade. It is a different set of incentives, and it shows up in the work.

What We Actually Believe About Roofs

Most roofs get replaced before they need to be. A free inspection from a company that only makes money on replacements is not really an inspection. Ours can and does come back saying your roof has four more good years in it. We would rather have the call in four years than the complaint next month.

Tear-off is not optional. Laying new shingles over old ones is faster, cheaper and quietly terrible. It traps heat and moisture between the layers, hides decking that has already failed, adds dead load the framing was never designed to carry, and takes years off the new shingles. We tear down to the deck, look at the sheathing, and replace what has rotted before anything new goes on.

The flashing is where roofs actually fail. Homeowners think about shingles. We think about the metal transitions at chimneys, sidewalls, skylights and valleys, because that is where the overwhelming majority of leaks we chase actually originate. On homes from the 1970s and 1980s around Carrollton and Original Town we regularly find flashing that was face-nailed and sealed with caulk. Caulk is a maintenance item, not a flashing detail.

Ventilation is part of the roof. The International Residential Code calls for one square foot of net free ventilating area per 150 square feet of attic floor, or per 300 where intake and exhaust are properly balanced. Plenty of North Texas attics do not meet it. An unventilated deck runs superheated all summer, cooks shingles from underneath, and gives the manufacturer grounds to decline a warranty claim. We measure it on every inspection, and we fix it as part of every replacement.

Credentials, and Why They Matter More Here Than Elsewhere

Texas does not license roofing contractors at the state level. There is no state board, no license number to look up, and no regulatory body that will stop someone from printing business cards this afternoon and climbing on your house tomorrow. That makes the credentials a contractor does hold considerably more important.

• GAF Master Elite certified. GAF limits this status to a restricted share of roofing contractors nationwide and requires documented licensing, insurance and an ongoing performance record to maintain it. It is also what allows us to register GAF's enhanced system warranties, which cover the roofing system rather than the shingles alone.
• General liability and workers compensation coverage. We provide certificates before work begins, every time, without being asked twice. If a roofer will not hand you proof of coverage, the risk of an injury on your property lands on your homeowners policy.
• Permits pulled where required. We follow the City of Lewisville's permitting requirements and those of every municipality we work in.
